Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 October 2026
Liner is a browser extension that displays synced lyrics, their meaning, and translations for the music playing in your browser. This policy explains what it does and does not do with your data.
The short version
Liner has no server of its own. It has no advertising or analytics. Saved lines and optional recent lyrics stay on your device. Settings and song favorites may sync through your browser profile. Requests for lyrics, translations and romanisation go directly to third-party providers as described below.
What Liner accesses
- The now-playing track. On music sites you explicitly allow, Liner reads the current song's title, artist, album, and artwork from the page's standard Media Session metadata, plus the playback position. This is used only to find and sync lyrics.
- Music-player controls. Liner also reads playback controls and timers on supported music sites. It uses tab URLs to identify the music service and reopen saved songs. It does not read unrelated page content, browsing history, cookies, or account details.
What Liner stores
All of the following is stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage) and never leaves your device except to sync across your own signed-in Chrome profile, if you use Chrome sync:
- Your settings (theme, lyric size, translation language, etc.)
- Your favorite songs
- Per-track sync offsets
- A small cache of recently fetched lyrics
- Up to 300 saved lines, including song metadata, source URLs and available playback timestamps (local only)
- Up to 100 remembered manual song matches (local only)
- Up to 500 saved words, with their reading, translation and the line and song they came from (local only)
- Lyrics and metadata for the last 30 songs, only if you turn on recent-lyrics history (local only)
You can remove saved lines in My lines, forget the current saved match beside the playback controls, and clear recent lyrics from My lines. Recent-lyrics history is off by default. Turning it off stops new history entries; Clear recent lyrics deletes existing entries. The operational lyrics cache is separate from opt-in searchable history. Removing the extension clears its local storage.
Third-party services
To fetch lyrics, annotations, credits, and translations, Liner makes requests directly from your browser to the following public services. Requests include the song title/artist and, for translations or romanisation, the requested lyric, phrase or word. Providers also receive normal network information such as your IP address. Liner does not add an account identifier or send your saved collection or searchable history to those services.
- LRCLIB (lrclib.net) — synced lyrics
- Genius (genius.com) — annotations, credits
- NetEase Cloud Music (music.163.com) — lyrics
- Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com) and MyMemory (api.mymemory.translated.net) — translations; Google also supplies optional romanisation
These services have their own privacy policies governing requests they receive. Lyrics, annotations, and credits are the property of their respective rights holders.
Data sharing and tracking
Liner contains no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers. We do not have a server, so there is nothing for us to collect or share.
